The Evolving Prana Schedule
Change occurs in every part of life, and Prana's schedule of classes is a perpetual reflection of impermanence and growth. Throughout the summer, Prana will continue to offer 7am classes. Awaken your spirit, body and mind with refreshing hatha, creating an energizing and flexible foundation for the rest of the beautiful day! Starting in July on Wednesday mornings at 9am, the summer teacher trainers will have an opportunity to share and develop their skills with the Prana community. Daniel will be teaching this class for most of July, and with time, the teacher trainers will take over, with a few teachers teaching throughout a class. Everyone is welcome to attend these all-level hatha classes, which will continue to be taught utilizing Prana's unique flow style. On Thursdays at 7:45 pm, join shakti mhi for satsang, a place for spiritual exchange between teacher and student. Satsang is by donation, with all donations going to food to be donated to Covenant House, an organization that gives relief to street youth. Other alterations to the schedule include the removal of the Sunday 12pm class (as of June 1st) based on a decrease in attendance as the summer unfolds. It will return in the fall. Enjoy the evolution and dynamic flow of life!

Thursday 7:45 pm Satsang with shakti Mhi
Awaken the questions within you, and pose them in a setting of spiritual discourse and meditation. Manifesting a balance between stilling the mind and contemplation, bring your attention and awareness to the ultimate observer; the one who sits motionless behind your eyes. Beginning in July on Thursdays at 7:45pm, Prana is offering a satsang, a form for any spiritual questions, with shakti Mhi, creating space internally and externally for collective meditation and insightful dialogue between teacher and student. Satsang will be by donation, with all proceeds being used to purchase food to be given to Covenant House.

Bursary Available for Teacher Training Applicants
Prana Yoga Teacher College is humbled to announce that we will be offering 4 bursaries for low-income individuals. For each applicant we are offering financial assistance of $1,400 off of the total program tuition (the total tuition for the Program would then be only $2,500 with the bursary). This incredible opportunity of gaining the 200hr yoga instructor certification is available to those who are able to submit an on-line application form along with an extensive bio and the required $100 application fee.
This bursary has been established to help change someone's life in a profoundly meaningful way. The individuals who will be presented with this bursary must demonstrate a genuine desire for the yogic lifestyle as well as explain how their financial hardship limits opportunities in life such as this program. It is very important to Prana to be conscious of the community in which it offers its programs, and to create space for those who desire to pursue teacher training for personal or practical use regardless of financial or circumstantial realities. Master Swami Vivekananda Saraswati : The Art of Dying
We are happy to announce that Swami Vivekananda will be a guest teacher in our College this fall. Swami Vivekananda is the brilliant exponent of a unique and modern trend of thinking in Yoga. Educated as an electrical engineer, he is a passionate and dedicated teacher of the true, ancient lines of Indian and Tibetan Yoga, rapidly becoming lost in today's "spiritual marketplace." Although he does not deviate in spirit from the traditional teachings of ancient masters, he has found the resources to present spirituality not as something dogmatic and dead, but as a living science, based on common sense and joy.
The Art of Dying workshop offers an enlightened approach to death and dying; explore the process by introducing into your perspective the Tibetan Bardo Thodol rites and training, lectures, initiations, meditations, practice, and hatha yoga. This workshop aims to give attention to and address a very important gap in modern times: the spiritual preparation for death, one of life's greatest passages.
Today, especially with the secularization of daily life, we are witnessing an appalling carelessness about the phenomenon of death, as well as a deep spiritual ignorance about its meaning, which is illustrated most often by the cloud of taboo and embarrassment surrounding the subject. The contrast between our great attention to birth - a new child benefiting from both the assistance of its mother and qualified medical personnel or midwives in an air of celebration - and our cold, medical treatment of the dying is reason enough to highlight the need for this workshop. The Art of Dying intends to change this focus, not only to teach an understanding of the process of death using the Bardo Thodol, the centuries-practiced Tibetan manual of dying, but also to provide training to pass to the other side in a spiritual manner and to help others go through this process. |

Prana Teachers: Jolene and Chris ~ Flowing Onwards
Life is full of this moment, and this moment is a perpetual opportunity to choose new directions and to embrace the next phase of existence. Prana celebrates the decisions of two beloved Prana teachers as they flow down the rivers of their choice, leaving Prana in the process. Jolene Bayda is journeying to her roots, blending contemplation with origination as she perfects the Saskatchewan landscape with her energy and presence. Chris Tucker embarks to Shanghai to learn amid teaching yoga in a potent city with incomparable texture, people and colourful culture. Our love, and the subtle connection that always remains, abides with them throughout this transition as life continues to effortlessly unfold.

Chris's Letter to Students:
What is Yoga?
Yoga takes us on a journey we know not where. All of us are drawn to this practice for varied reasons. It really doesn't matter what those reasons initially are. They change, like everything else. Yoga came into my life and triggered a deep sense of knowing that I was into something good, something really good. And I've just followed that thread wherever it has taken me. Sometimes I thought I was practicing to save the world, sometime to save myself. It didn't really matter. What did was the practice and the honest journey we take. It just gets better all the time. What do I mean by better? I mean feeling and being open to other people and living in this present moment in this changing world. And looking back I realize that there is no way I could have communicated my present experience with this practice to that self that arrived at the yoga studio years ago. Likewise I doubt very much that my current interpretation of what life or practice is now will have much bearing two or twenty years down the road. But that little voice continues to speak and show the way. And all those illusions and perceived contradictions that caused me so much frustration have evaporated.
We keep going. And all I have is a deep thanks for everyone that has shared the journey thus far. A deep love for shakti and Daniel and mhilo and all the Angels who keep the Sacred Space flowing and love to the flow of practitioners through that space. Whether you were one of the regulars that I will dearly miss or someone who popped in from out of town and we shared that moment. Yoga is a living tradition and without all of us it would be just dusty books and arcane lore.
I will be teaching yoga in Shanghai for the next year. If you are visiting China and would like to visit please get my email from the office...I would love to see you. Until we meet again,
Namaste

Jolene's Letter to Students:
My experience in Prana was made complete with the warmth, love, and energy each of you shared over the past few years. Our many journeys through the pranic flow taught me the potential of humanity, the spirit of truth, and the nature of love. Even though my path leads to an unknown destination...... I accept wholeheartedly, and surrender to the guidance of the universe. I know in my heart our paths will cross again. Prana will remain my home as this wandering yogini takes a leap of faith into the brilliance of light.
Allow breath to guide movement, to create awareness, to unveil stillness, to manifest infinite possibilities.
Thank you for teaching me the diversity of the flow.
With infinite love and gratitude,
Namaste

Supporting Life by Supporting Covenant House
As one small seed nurtures the forest in which it grows, so does Prana extend its energy and support to the community in which it exists. Covenant House is an organization that supports youth who leave or are driven from their homes. In whatever area energy is needed, be it a bed, a meal, or emotional support, those who need it receive it at Covenant House. Prana is aware of the effort it takes to maintain such an organization, as well as the open need for its existence. There are many ways in which members of the community can help Prana support Covenant House:
- Clothing Donations (teenage wear) ~ Covenant House readily accepts clothing donations of all kinds, especially clothing appropriate for teenagers. You can donate clothing directly to CV by dropping it off at 575 Drake Street in Vancouver.
- Dollar for Dollar ~ For every dollar that you contribute to Covenant House, Prana will match it. That means if you give $20, a total of $40 will be donated to Covenant House through Prana, providing youth with food and basic sustenance supplies.
- Light the Path Ahead ~ Place a donation in the donation box at the reception desk in Prana and take home a candle holder and a candle. All donations will go to Covenant House, and you will possess a symbol of light; a reminder that through sharing and spreading love and hope in this world, the opportunity to experience lasting fulfillment is made more possible for everyone.
An Excerpt from Covenant House's Main Website:
For those of us who grew up in healthy happy families, it is difficult to imagine what years of abuse and neglect can do to a child. Even those of us who had our "fair share" of family turmoil know how difficult it can be to transform ourselves from angry edgy teenagers to prosperous stable adults. Needless to say, the road from adolescence to adulthood can be a bumpy one.
Covenant House Vancouver exists for those young people for whom there is often no one else - young people who have either willingly fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse or those who have been forced from their homes.
Often broken-hearted, the young people who come to Covenant House face many barriers to independent, healthy living. Many life threatening situations await kids who end up on the street. Substance misuse, disease and violence are a daily reality of street life.
Covenant House welcomes young people aged 16 - 24 with open arms. We bandage their cut-up feet, we give them hot food and a warm bed and we support them in their choice to change their present circumstances while helping them heal from past traumas.
We understand that life changes are challenging and do everything in our power to ensure that young people succeed at whatever plan they have chosen for themselves. As long as genuine effort is demonstrated, so is our commitment.
