Courses for Enhanced Yoga Practice

All current pass holders can try any of the classes offered within the new courses, space permitting

We are pleased to announce that starting in September 2007; Prana Yoga Centre will be expanding options for students by offering a variety of courses that specialize in various intriguing aspects of yoga. All course classes will include the signature Prana style posture flow along with expanded teaching on a variety of subjects of interest for a deeper yoga experience.

The primary purpose behind introducing these new and exciting class options is the commitment of the Prana team to the evolution and education of our members and enhancing their personal practice; as well as allowing for a disciplined commitment in a more structured fashion.

Members currently holding a pass with Prana can still attend any of the course classes at Prana under the same conditions that existed when the pass was originally purchased. This means that students are free to come to any class on the schedule. Bursaries Offered for Fall Program!

Prana Yoga Teacher College is humbled to announce that we have three remaining bursaries to offer low-income individuals. For each applicant we are offering financial assistance of $1,400 off of the total program tuition (the total tuition for the Program would then be only $2,500 with the bursary). This incredible opportunity of gaining the 200hr yoga instructor certification is available to those who are able to submit an on-line application form along with an extensive bio and the required $100 application fee.

This bursary has been established to help change someone's life in a profoundly meaningful way. The individuals who will be presented with this bursary must demonstrate a genuine desire for the yogic lifestyle as well as explain how their financial hardship limits opportunities in life such as this program. It is very important to Prana to be conscious of the community in which it offers its programs, and to create space for those who desire to pursue teacher training for personal or practical use regardless of financial or circumstantial realities. Guest Tantra Master Swami Vivekanada

We are happy to announce that Swami Vivekananda will be a guest teacher in our College this fall. Swami Vivekananda is the brilliant exponent of a unique and modern trend of thinking in Yoga. Educated as an electrical engineer, he is a passionate and dedicated teacher of the true, ancient lines of Indian and Tibetan Yoga, rapidly becoming lost in today's "spiritual marketplace." Although he does not deviate in spirit from the traditional teachings of ancient masters, he has found the resources to present spirituality not as something dogmatic and dead, but as a living science, based on common sense and joy.

Amazing and comprehensive workshops included in his teaching schedule are: Tantra 1, Tantra 2, the Art of Dying (including Bardol Rites), Parapsychology, and Metaphysics (with focus on meditation and esoteric teachings). Register for one or all of the courses and take the opportunity to discover this guest Yoga Master and his wonderful knowledge and insights. For a full biography and full course descriptions, click here.

If you interested please pre register at 604.676.8812 as space is limited

Psych-K ~ Your life is a reflection of your beliefs
Instructor: Darryl Gurney

These beliefs - usually subconscious - are the cumulative effect of life-long "programming." As a result of past negative programming, we sometimes think and behave in self-defeating ways. PSYCH-K provides a user-friendly way to rewrite the "software" of your mind by changing beliefs that sabotage you into beliefs that support you... quickly and easily.

PSYCH-K helps you communicate directly with both the conscious and the subconscious minds, so you can change old beliefs that sabotage you into new positive ones that support you! This unique process is a blend of various tools for change, some contemporary and some ancient. Like many innovations in the world, PSYCH-K was the result of a "blinding flash of the obvious" generated by years of research and thousands of sessions with individuals and groups. PSYCH-K techniques are easy to learn and simple to use. Learn more here.

Street Heat Initiative ~ Providing Warmth for the Homeless

Vision:

By providing warmth to the homeless, our aim is to inspire a shift in our community from isolation to compassion; from judgment to understanding. Street Heat hopes that this shift in awareness will foster greater warmth and comfort in our community

Mission:

To come together as a community to spread warmth to people living on the streets of Vancouver, through the offering of clothing, blankets, shoes and rain gear.

About the Winter 2007 project:

With an estimated 3000 homeless person population in Vancouver, this fall Street Heat is collecting donations of warm winter gear. Research shows it is abundantly clear that Vancouver's street people need basic items to get through the winter season. Collection boxes will be placed in convenient locations throughout the community.

Street Heat is aligning with organizations that already strategically distribute these items to our homeless community.

Items that Street Heat will be collecting:

  • Rain coats and sweaters
  • Wool socks and shoes
  • Glove, scarves and toques
  • Wool blankets

How can you be involved as a business or as an individual?

  • Help us raise awareness by:
  • Spreading the word to friends, family & clients
  • Place the Street Heat link on your website
  • Hang a Street Heat poster up in a visible location
  • Become a donation collection point
  • Volunteer with the distribution locations

This project is currently supported by:

Prana Yoga & Zen Center
The Space Vancouver
Still Life Therapy

Street Heat Supporting the Homeless ~ Covenant House

As one small seed nurtures the forest in which it grows, so does Prana extend its energy and support to the community in which it exists. Covenant House is an organization that supports youth who leave or are driven from their homes. In whatever area energy is needed, be it a bed, a meal, or emotional support; those who need it receive it at Covenant House. Prana is aware of the effort it takes to maintain such an organization, as well as the open need for its existence. There are many ways in which members of the community can help Prana support Covenant House:

  • Clothing Donations (teenage wear) ~ Covenant House readily accepts clothing donations of all kinds, especially clothing appropriate for teenagers. You can donate clothing directly to CV by dropping it off at 575 Drake Street in Vancouver.
  • Dollar for Dollar ~ For every dollar that you contribute to Covenant House, Prana will match it. That means if you give $20, a total of $40 will be donated to Covenant House through Prana, providing youth with food and basic sustenance supplies.
  • Light the Path Ahead ~ Place a donation in the donation box at the reception desk in Prana and take home a candleholder and a candle. All donations will go to Covenant House, and you will possess a symbol of light; a reminder that through sharing and spreading love and hope in this world, the opportunity to experience lasting fulfillment is made more possible for everyone.

Teachers at Prana

Heather is back

Heather DeLong is back from her fantastic trip from Shanghai teaching yoga abroad. In her words:

As a student of yoga, I tried many different studios. I didn't know what I was looking for exactly - but I had a feeling it wasn't about putting my legs behind my head. The first time I went to Prana, I remember being so impressed by how sincere and supportive and skilled the teachers were. Practicing in this setting enabled me to truly relax and connect with a deeper quality of being - - in other words, it allowed me to experience yoga.

As a teacher, creating a safe, supportive environment is my priority. Students are encouraged to accept the limitations of their bodies and to practice with awareness and compassion in the moment, cultivating a lifelong practice and an understanding that moves beyond the mat.

Check the new schedule and watch for her courses.
